Goode Wraps Provide Relief From Shin Splints Treatment  Pain, Swelling and Stiffness Treatment by Relaxing Muscles--Less pressure on Tendons

Shin Splints or leg pain occur in the front of the shin bone.  The most common are on the outer part of the Shin but they can also occur on the inner part of the shin. The most common cause of this condition is overuse.

Shin Splints is a misnomer as the term is not used by many Physical Therapists, Doctors  or professionals in Sports Medicine.  This is because shin splints is not a specific diagnosis but a symptom of shin pain, sometimes in front and sometimes in back of the shin bone.  However, everyone knows the name in common usage and it does not matter whether it is in  back or front of the shin.  The pain from shin splints has many causes such as problems of the muscle, bone or the attachment of the muscle to the bone.  The location  has technical references such as Stress Fracture, Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome, Chronic compartment syndrome or exercise induced compartment syndrome.   All of these technical terms are called Shin Splints.  Therefore, Shin Splints is the common name given to pain over the front or back of the lower leg when people are hurting.

The pain from Shin Splint is at time hard to identify because everyones body is different and the mechanics differ slightly. The most common factor occurs when the foot flattens out after the  weight of the body is applied and the stretching created by Overpronation, inflammation or tendinitis occurs. Pronation is normal when the foot flattens slightly with common foot motion.  Overpronation occurs if the flattening becomes too strenuous and flattens out, causing the foot to roll inwards.  This excess force causes excess demand on the muscle of the leg and lead to complaints of shin splints.

Shin Splints  Treatment ---Shin Splints make you think of the bone splitting on your lower leg because of the searing pain you experience as you hit the wall half way through a marathon.

Its not only the top runners in marathons that suffer Shin Splints.  Anyone that hasnt shaped up those muscles and goes out, maybe in the wrong shoes on bad pavement, can find themselves dropping out, with tears running down their cheeks.

That is your body telling you to quit, before the Shin Splints you have develop into serious a stress injury.

It is best to avoid Shin Splints by starting  with stretching exercises to keep out of trouble.  Take a class with a professional to learn how to stretch the hamstrings, calf muscles and Achilles Tendons.  Also work those lower leg muscles to toughen them up.  Drawing pictures of things with your big toe and doing reverse circles will get great results.  Using Goode Wraps makes all of this easy and pain free.

Controversy as to the cause of the Shin Splints pain has been the subject of much debate.  There are differing thoughts as to the etiology or cause of Medial Tibia Stress Syndrome (MTSS) or shin splints.  Most would agree that the condition is exercise-induced however  little research-supported information has identified the specific cause of Shin pain.  The cause or etiology of the pain includes the following:

1. Periostitis – inflammation of the outer layer of the bone where the muscles attach
2. Myositis – inflammation of muscle
3. Tendinitis – inflammation of the muscle-tendon complex that attaches to the bone
4. Stress Fracture – documented description of a bone injury on x-ray or via bone scan
5. Compartment Syndrome – swelling, pressure, and ischemia (lack of blood and oxygen) in the deep posterior compartment in the lower part of the leg*
  * Previous studies have not found compartment syndrome to be the source of pain in Medial Tibia Stress Syndrome.

Dear Sir/Madam:
I am a team physician of a high-school long distance running team and interested in using Goode Wraps for my athletes with shin splints. I live in Japan, do you have a dealer in Japan or can you accept an international order from Japan?  Also I would appreciate if you could give me some information about mechanisms of alleviating pain by Goode Wraps (to explain to athletes, how to use it.)

Dr. K. is very interested in our products.  Also most students have a good impression of Goode Wraps.  There are some athletes who cannot use other knee wraps after trying our regular one. The biggest difference is fatigue.  They get less tired with Goode Wraps.  He wants to know how it works.  The Dr. is going to give us scientific and academic reports in two or three months.

"I just wanted to write a short note to let you know how pleased I am with your Shin Splints products.  I had a case of Patellar Tendinitis in my knees (alternatively) and I ordered a knee wrap.  I received it last night, and immediately felt a difference!  I ordered another wrap for the other knee because the reduction in stiffness in the morning (subtle) was noticeable.  This makes it much more comfortable during the reconditioning process.  I highly recommend your products--well worth the investment."

I have to tell everyone about the relief  I got from my Goode Wraps.  I was skeptical but had found nothing that would work very well or last very long for Shin Splints.  I wear the wraps after soccer and to bed and have had no problems.  Thank you Goode Wraps.    Julie

Dancer2.gif (2074 bytes)This outer part of the Shin is a very difficult area to stretch, so stretching will never be the silver bullet for this condition.  There are some runners who are prone to Shin Splints as this is their weak link in the chain.  Regardless of your susceptibility to the condition, again there are specific habits that can be done to both prevent and heal Shin Splints.

Give the muscles time to heal.  Anti-inflammatories are indicated during the acute stage.  Goode Wraps Sports Wraps for pain are recommended over pharmaceuticals, as it has been clinically tested as a topical solution to Inflammation and can relax muscles which results in reduction of pain.

Medial Tibial Shin Splints account for about 75% of the leg pain problems affecting athletes.  Tibial Periostitis occurs further toward the front of the leg than Medial Tibial Shin Splints and the bone itself is tender.  Anterior compartment syndrome affects the outer side of the front of the leg.
