Dear Sir/Madam:
I am a team physician of high-school long distance running team and interested in using Goode Wraps for my athletes with shin splint, but I live in Japan.  Do you have a dealer in Japan or can you accept an international order from Japan?  Also I would appreciate if you can give me some information about mechanisms of alleviating pain by Goode Wraps (to explain athletes to use it).

Don:
Dr. K. is very interested in our products.  Also most students has good impression of Goode Wraps. There are some athletes who cannot use other knee wraps after trying our regular one. The biggest difference is fatigue, he said. They get less tired with Goode Wraps. He wants to know how it works. The Dr. is going to give us scientific and academic report in two or three months.

Controversy as to the cause of the shin splints pain has been the subject of much debate.  shin splints runnerThere are differing thoughts as to the etiology or cause of Medial Tibia Stress Syndrome (MTSS) or shin splints. Most would agree that the condition is exercise-induced, however, little research-supported information has identified the specific cause of shin pain.  The cause or etiology of the pain includes the following:

1. Periostitis – inflammation of the outer layer of the bone where the muscles attach
2. Myositis – inflammation of muscle
3. Tendinitis – inflammation of the muscle-tendon complex that attaches to the bone
4. Stress Fracture – documented description of a bone injury on x-ray or via bone scan
5. Compartment Syndrome – swelling, pressure, and ischemia (lack of blood and oxygen) in the deep posterior compartment in the lower part of the leg*

  * Previous studies have not found compartment syndrome to be the source of pain in Medial Tibia Stress Syndrome.

Subject: Knee Wraps

I just wanted to write a short note to let you know how pleased I am with your shin splints products.  I had a case of patellar tendinitis in my knees (alternatively) and I ordered a knee wrap.  I received it last night, and immediately felt a difference!  I ordered another wrap for the other knee because the stiffness in the morning (subtle) was noticeable.  This makes it much more comfortable during the reconditioning process.

I highly recommend your products--well worth the investment.

Goode Wraps Provide Relief From Shin Splints Pain, Swelling and Stiffness by Relaxing Muscles

What are Goode Wraps, anyway?

They are premium sports wraps.  Each of these is impregnated with a unique blend of natural rare earth semiconductors, not magnets, that increase muscle relaxation to reduce pain or prevent swelling from shin splints.   Goode Wraps are available for the foot, ankle, shin, knee, elbows, and wrist.  In fact, the semiconductors can be added to almost any cloth like material, even compression shorts. And, they have been clinically tested at five major Universities.

Shin splints or leg pain occur in the front of the shin bone. The most common are on the outer part of the shin, however, they can also occur on the inner part of the shin. The most common cause of this condition is overuse.

Dancer2.gif (2074 bytes)This is a very difficult area to stretch, so stretching will never be the silver bullet for this condition. There are some runners who are prone to shin splints, as this is their weak link in the chain. Regardless of your susceptibility to the condition, again, there are specific habits that can be done to both prevent and heal this condition.

Give the muscles time to heal. Anti-inflammatories are indicated during the acute stage. Goode Wraps are recommended over pharmaceuticals, as it is all natural and has been clinically tested as an anti-inflammatory, muscle relaxant and for relieving pain.

Medial tibial shin splints account for about 75% of the leg pain problems affecting athletes. Tibial periostitis occurs further toward the front of the leg than medial tibial shin splints, and the bone itself is tender.  Anterior compartment syndrome affects the outer side of the front of the leg.

medial tibila stress syndrome, lower leg, posterior stress syndrome

The term shin splints are not actually a diagnosis.  Shin splints are a common misnomer in sports medicine and Physical Therapists and Medical Doctors seldom use the term.  The proper usage to describe a symptom of pain over the front or back of the tibia bone has specific diagnosis terms.  Shin splints pain can be due to problems of the muscles, the bone, or the attachment of the muscle to the bone.  The technical terms are Exercise induced compartmental syndrome, Medial tibial stress syndrome or Stress fracture -- all short for shin splints.  Shin Splints is simply the common usage for pain over the front or back of the lower leg.

Due to the fact that everyone’s body is different and each body has mechanics that are certainly slightly different it all depends upon the strength of the bones and tendons. The most common problem occurs when the foot flattens out as weight is applied.  Pronation and Overpronation.  Pronation is normal when the foot flattens slightly, meaning foot motion.  Overpron tion occurs when the foot becomes too flattened out causing the foot to roll inwards. The overpronation causes increased demand on the muscle, tendons and bones over the front of the leg and lead to complaints of shin splints.

This is a very difficult area to stretch, so stretching will never be the silver bullet for this condition. There are some runners who are prone to shin splints, as this is their weak link in the chain. Regardless of your susceptibility to the condition, again, there are specific habits that can be done to both prevent and heal this condition.

Shin splints occur in the front of the shinbone. The most common are on the outer part of the shin, however, they can also occur on the inner part of the shin. The most common cause of this condition is overuse. Usually, too much too soon is to blame. Just as all other muscles, a full recovery is usually required to reduce the likelihood of this type  of injury. If a full recovery doesn't take place, the shin muscles are tight and have a diminished blood flow. When they are then asked to perform, there is very little tolerance before a full-blown contraction and inflammation takes place. Goode Wraps relax muscles and tendons to relieve shin splints.

Muscle Relaxation Study for Shin Splints

Muscle relaxation study for Goode Wraps by a large Southwest University

 Notes from the Researchers

The research has proven to be more difficult than anticipated primarily because there has never been any research, at least documented, concerning how muscles relax or why muscles become more flexible.

The research was performed on mice. Basically they measured the flexibility that would occur over a 20 minute period by moving the mouse leg back and forth during this time period. Numerous tests were performed at three different frequencies to establish the control. The charts show how the muscle resistance decreases over time. In other words, warming up your muscles moves them to maximum flexibility.

Once these standards were developed, the same procedures were followed only a Goode Wrap massage cone was applied to the belly of the muscles. The results show that our product quickly allowed the muscle to move to full flexibility.

In another test, the muscles were at full flexibility and then our product was applied. In these tests nothing happened.

The next stage of the study will be 1) To record nervous activity in dorsal roots of the spinal cord during static and dynamic stretch, and 2) To determine static and dynamic muscle stiffness with or without topical application following cutting of dorsal roots.

What to do about Shin-Splint

Exercise is important if you are an athlete, particularly a varsity athlete. Shin splint arise often because people to overdo it, especially when it comes to exercise.   The Goode Wraps have been used by a number of Universities to solve shin splint.  Two of these are BYU and Clemson.  A number of exercise programs can lead to aches and pains and shin splint, and sometimes a trip to the trainer for treatment of an exercise-related injury. Basketball players, for instance, often complain of shin splint.   Soccer players, tennis players and others who participate in sports that involve a lot of running get shin splint, too.

Shin splint is not a specific diagnosis.  Doctors prefer terms such as lower leg stress, posterior tibial syndrome or tendinitis.  Regardless of what you call it, it really means that your shins ache and hurt.  Shin splint involve pain in the front or inside part of the lower leg. The muscles of the lower leg where they attaché to the bone becomes inflamed, or tendonitis.

Some shin splint occur because people so not have proper training habits.  Problems in training may be caused by faulty or the wrong equipment, sometimes the shoes. Another error is changing training routines without allowing time for the body to adjust. Basketball players starting the season start and stop quickly adding great stress to the lower legs.   Shin Splint often show up at the beginning of the year.

A shin splint is technically the tearing away of the anterior tibial muscle from the bone. Shin splints, or tenosynovitis of the anterior tibial muscle.   Most conditions that people call shin-splint respond to very simple measures like a temporary decrease in training, using ice to reduce inflammation and pain and stretching and strengthening exercises.  Others purchase a Goode Wrap.  These wraps relief the pain and probably help the healing.

Stress fracture is usually a localized, sharp pain with tenderness 1 or 2 inches below the knee. This condition is likely to occur 2 or 3 weeks into a new training program after the legs have taken a real pounding.

Shin Splint Tendonitis is a common presentation to family practitioners and various medical specialists.

Most currently practicing general practitioners were taught, and many still believe, that patients who present with overuse shin splint tendonitis have a largely inflammatory condition and will benefit from anti-inflammatory medication.

Unfortunately this dogma is deeply entrenched.

Ten of 11 readily available sports medicine texts specifically recommend non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for treating painful conditions like shin splint, Achilles and patellar tendonitis despite the lack of a biological rationale or clinical evidence for this approach.

Instead of adhering to the myths above, physicians should acknowledge that painful overuse tendon conditions have a non-inflammatory cause.

A critical review of the role of various anti-inflammatory medications in soft tissue conditions found limited evidence of short term pain relief and no evidence of their effectiveness in providing even medium term clinical resolution of clearly diagnosed tendon disorders.

Laboratory studies have not shown a therapeutic role for these medications. Steroid injections provide mixed results in relieving the pain of tendon problems.

Goode Wraps Provide Relief From Pain, Swelling and Stiffness by Relaxing Muscles

Typical Comment from an Eventual Happy Customer with shin splint:

University Research Briefs

University of Kansas, Brigham Young University, Colorado State, University of Texas at San Antonio and Texas Tech

The Goode Wraps products have proven effective in relieving skin splint pain, swelling and stiffness.  There have been no complaints about allergic reactions.   The FDA laboratory in Seattle, Washington tested the product to see if any of the semiconductors were absorbed into the skin.  This test concluded the elements were not absorbed into the skin.

The Health Sciences Department or Medical Schools at five major universities have been involved in research.  A double blind pain study was conducted (including shin splint) at a western university and the results stated, "Seven days- 33% of control group subjects had again slight improvement. 91% of the treatment group subjects had great to total improvement.  Significance is .004.”  An anti-inflammatory study by a southwest university concluded, "These data indicate that semiconductors are an active topical anti-inflammatory agent when impregnated on cloth or on tape.”  Another study by the same university summarized by stating, "There does not appear to be any consistent effect of the semiconductor patches on blood flow or local temperature in resting subjects (does not create edema).  A third study on muscle relaxation states, "In several experiments, we have been able to record a reduction of force through the motion cycle after the application of semiconductors over the bellies of the planar flexor muscles.  This effect occurs within very few minutes of application of semiconductors."

Two pilot studies with athletes wearing Goode Wraps at a rocky mountain university conclude, "Kicking results showed that maximum ball velocity, knee joints angular velocity, thigh and shank angular velocities at contact were larger in condition A (wearing Goode Wraps) than in condition B (wearing placebo wraps).  Vertical jump results showed average jump height, vertical take-off velocity and vertical push-off impulse to be greater in the semiconductor jumps."

An Osteoarthritis study at a nursing school concluded, “T-test analyses of data demonstrated a moderate decrease in pain after two hours for both the HexTapes and placebo groups and a significant decrease in pain in only the HexTape group after two days of treatment, supporting the hypothesis of a significant decrease in reported pain of subjects receiving treatment of topically applied Goode Wraps tapes as compared to subjects receiving placebo therapy.”

The basic science for the mechanism has not been established.  A number of hypotheses have been advanced.  The Goode Wraps may conduct excess body electricity, may conduct the body’s electromagnetic waves, may conduct free radicals, may enhance free radical scavengers or may enhance the development of the extra cellular matrix.
